Additional Arizona Pharmacy Technician Renewal Rules

  • Pharmacy technicians are exempt from the standard 20-hour requirement between initial licensure and their first renewal.
  • The first-renewal exemption does not eliminate practice-specific training that must be completed before administering vaccines or performing duties at a remote dispensing site.
  • Continuing education hours must be awarded by an Arizona-approved provider.
  • Arizona does not establish a general live continuing education minimum for pharmacy technicians.
  • The standard 20 hours must be completed during the two years following the technician’s previous renewal.
  • A technician may submit the renewal application before finishing the required education, but all applicable requirements must be completed before the license expires.
  • Technicians must retain continuing education records identifying the completed hours and approved providers for five years.
  • Continuing education documentation must be made available to the Arizona Board of Pharmacy upon request.
  • Failure to satisfy the continuing education requirements may be treated as unprofessional conduct and result in disciplinary action.
  • Arizona assigns each technician to an odd-year or even-year renewal group. Failure to renew by November 1 of the assigned year suspends the license.
